It was dark, it was windyThe clouds had set in over the city
The thunder waited for a while
Never the less, it showed no pity
End of the world, some said,
2012 was here
The media, the channels said the same
Apocalypse was everyone's fear
The Pundits and the Oracles
Had warned all of this day
None had paid heed to them
None knew the price they'd pay
The mothers held their babies in the arm
The fathers looked grim
The children hid beneath the tables
They knew their chances got slim
And then there was a crackling sound
As though it teared past the ground
Roaring thunder and a dazzling light
Shook everyone in the middle of the night
The birds started flying in despair
The animals hurried for life
The men screamed one last time
It was perhaps the end of the strife
I was still asleep on my bed
When I woke up to the thunder
My wife and I stood up in fear
We thought we would fall asunder
She grabbed me with her hand
I hold her very tight
I knew what may come upon us
We wouldn't give up this fight
I had pictured this night in dreams
I had talked about it so many times
And no one believed that this would be true
Until the day arrived
It was just when we thought we would die
A thundering sound roared in
A light blinded all our eyes
I thought it was time that we give in
But to our surprise, a strange silence followed
We held our breath in dismay
My wife and I gathered some steel
To find out if it was the end to the endless fray
We looked outside through our window
Our heart pounding very fast
What we saw that night, outdoor
We would never forget to the last
A beautiful rainbow tore the sky
It was gleaming above the town
The fierceful furious glazing sun
Stared at us, smiling with a frown
The trees, the birds, the animals breathed
An air of relief that they longed
The storm ended, the air calmed
The bell of life gonged
We had survived December twelfth
We had survived our biggest fear
We had fought our longest fight
And put an end to our own despair
And then my wife smiled at me
Holding my hands in oomph
I said, "I knew we would surely win!"
And hugged her at our biggest triumph
And that night when I went to bed
I remembered something my mother always said,
"Fortune favors the bold and Fortune favors the brave,
For its He who saves us all and its He who sends us to the grave!"
